Two defensive linemen stand out among the 92s in FSU history.

92 days remain until Florida State opens its 2016 season with a neutral-site game against Ole Miss in Orlando on September 5th. With that number in mind, let’s take a look at the best players to wear No. 92 in Florida State history.

At first glance, no single player jumps out as the most exceptional No. 92 to play at FSU. Nine different Seminoles wore the number for only one season and only four have worn it for three or more years. Although no one sporting No. 92 has ever earned an All-American honor in Tallahassee, a pair of Seminoles have been named All-ACC players in the No. 92 jersey, both of which were defensive linemen.

Defensive tackle Jerry Johnson was the first notable No. 92 in program history. He wore 92 for each of his five years at Florida State from 1995-1999. Johnson was a three-year starter in the ‘Noles defensive front, capping off his career with a first-team All-ACC honor in his senior season, the year of FSU’s second national championship. In that all-conference season, Johnson managed 66 tackles (32 solo), nine tackles for loss, and one sack as a major player on the Seminoles’ defense. He also earned a was named an All-ACC Academic team member in his sophomore season. Additionally, Johnson is the sole No. 92 to be drafted, going 101st overall to the Denver Broncos in the 2000 NFL Draft.

The other 92 to be recognized in his time at FSU was the more recent Anthony McCloud, who sported No. 92 for each of his three seasons at Florida State (2010-2012). After three years of solid rotation work at defensive tackle, McCloud was honored as an honorable mention for the 2012 All-ACC team after his senior season. Over his career, McCloud tallied 84 total tackles, 33 solo tackles, and nine tackles for loss.

The other Seminoles who wore No. 92 during their careers include:
