Around 1200 football season tickets remain with only tens of days to go before Nebraska plays their first game of the 2016 football season against Fresno State on September 3rd.
This means it’s only a matter time before the world as we know it comes to an end. I’m not sure what it will look like, only that it will be scary, with Nebraskans walking around looking at their shoes. Some will look at other people’s shoes, but we will shun them as not being sad enough and exile them to another state like Minnesota where it’s perfectly reasonable to look at other people’s shoes as long as you don’t try to talk to them.
It’s most likely the sellout streak will be saved by the “friends of the program”, as it has in the past. Perhaps if the Nebraska athletic department would drop their donation levels, this wouldn’t be a problem. Fans would snap those tickets right up and there wouldn’t be a need for “Friends of the Program”.
YOU FOOL!
Did you not see the recent news where Nebraska is behind Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan in terms of gross revenue from their football programs? Are you unaware that there is an arms race going on in collegiate sport, the very same arms race that’s been going on since the 1890s, the very arms race that Nebraska cannot afford to lose?
Where would Nebraska be without Cornhusker football? On what else would the state hang its pride? (This is the subject of an entire series of articles for July, so don’t go down this rabbit hole just yet unless you’re going to forget it all until July.)
The “Friends of the Program” can’t save us from our lazy ass selves every time this issue rolls around! Get out there and get a couple season tickets! You can’t just go around puffing out your chest and telling other fans how YOUR athletic department doesn’t take taxpayer money or university subsidies without having some skin in the game!
We need to all rally together to avert this crisis! Don’t make me quote the fight song!
DO NOT FORGET THAT THE “Nebraska Makes Delicious Beer” campaign begins today!!!!
Please help us spread the word on that if you love delicious beer.
Those 63 meters might seem improbable when considering an injury Malone suffered as a child in Geneva, Nebraska, which caused her to spend weeks in a wheelchair.

SHERMAN’S MARCH TO THE SEA: TEXAS TECH RED RAIDERS – Off Tackle Empire
THE ONLY WAY I CAN JUSTIFY THE FOUNDING OF THIS CITY IS THAT A LOT OF FOLKS DESPERATE TO LEAVE THE DEEP SOUTH BUT TOO STUBBORN TO COME TO THE MIDWEST RAN INTO THE EXACT SAME WAGON TROUBLE IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT.

Minnesota Gophers: 1893 First Field Meet–Bike Races! #TBT – The Daily Gopher
Bike racing was hugely popular in the 1890s when the U of M got together for its first Field Meet. The grand prize? A match up with Wisconsin, Michigan and Northwestern in Chicago (this was 3 years before the start of the Big Ten Conference).
Von Miller should sit out 2016 to expose the NFL’s unfair franchise tag rules | FOX Sports
In March, the Broncos slapped Miller with a franchise tag —€” an antiquated quirk of the NFL’s CBA that’s long past its logical expiration point —€” and despite the fact that he’s one of the top players in the NFL, there’s nothing Miller can do about it.
When I saw this headline, my immediate reaction is that we’re very quick to write about anything we consider “unfair”.
Mississippi State’s lenient Simmons penalty sends troubling message | SI.com
One game against South Alabama. That’s the suspension Mississippi State announced for incoming freshman defensive end Jeffery Simmons, who was caught on tape punching a woman as she lay on the ground in March. Unless an evaluation reveals warning signs that inspire Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin to lengthen the suspension, the Bulldogs’ top-ranked incoming recruit basically will serve the same penalty as a player flagged for targeting in a game.
I believe that Andy Staples is the best college football writer out there today.
Steele predicts major strides for Huskers
“They had five last second losses last year”, said Steele. “That means they were five plays away from being an 11-2 team last year. I think they are going to be way under the radar heading into the season and I think you are going to see a much improved Nebraska this year.”
Define “much improved” you bastard.
Thinking About Third-and-Short | Hail Varsity
Third-and-short situations would go on to be a season-long problem for Nebraska. The Huskers converted 54.9 percent of their third-down attempts of 3 yards or less, which ranked 77th nationally and 10th in the Big Ten.

A Good Deal: The Full Details of UCLA’s Deal with Under Armour – Bruins Nation

The MLB Draft shows the hypocrisy of the NFL’s collusion with college football – SBNation.com
Pay attention to how often you hear analysis of these teenagers’ academic performance as they’re drafted into the pros. (You won’t hear a single word.)
I’m not sure I agree with this. Football, baseball – two completely different sports, different structures, different business models. Maybe the best solution would be for MLB to stop drafting players out of high school instead of the NFL to allow itself to do so.
I would guess that the vast majority of high school players who tried to make the jump from high school to the NFL would fail miserably not because of physical acumen, but because the skill and the speed of the game between those levels is so HUUUGEEE that it would be difficult to make the leap.
Paramus Catholic president calls police over car magnets and a teddy bear – On the Banks
This childish prank is being treated as vandalism and Paramus Catholic president James Vail called the police. Yes, he called the police over a teddy bear and chalk. While The Order of Bulls Blood should not have done this, there is clearly an over reaction on the PC side of things.
This whole thing is rather weird.

I tend to hate anything labelled an “open letter”, but this is well done. If you’re only picking one thing out of this to read today, this should be it.
