Cal is back down to one linebacking commit in the 2017 recruiting class. Linebacker Jaylen Griffin has reopened his recruitment. The Georgia defender says he’s still considering Cal, along with Boston College, Colorado State, Louisville and Virginia Tech.

Cal recently received a commitment from junior college linebacker Da’Quan Patton (and another commitment from quarterback Chase Garbers), so the Bears aren’t bereft of linebacker talent. But as has been mentioned before, the Bears are running short on linebackers going forward and could use all the commitments they can find at that position.
Cal still has seven commitments in their 2017 recruiting class, including Garbers, Patton, wide receiver Taariq Johnson, defensive end Gabe Cherry, athlete Jeremiah Hawkins, athlete Michael Onyemaobi, and defensive back Je’Quari Godfrey. The Bears do have plenty of time to find defenders to replace Griffin though, so hopefully there is time.
Cal fans, your thoughts on Griffin’s decommitment?
