A few days ago Bret Bielema spoke at a banquet in Mobile, Alabama, and got the chance to talk about everything from Alabama, to Baylor, to Satellite Camps. Being in Alabama, a lot of the discussion was about his opinions on the Tide, and Bielema’s most notable quote was that Arkansas isn’t going to win a conference championship until they beat Alabama. Its by no means shocking, to say “to be the best you have to beat the best,” but it is on his mind as we get closer to the 2016 season.
The outdoor track championships are a little over a week away, but the final preliminary meets are finished and the listings for each event are set. Both men’s and women’s head coaches Lance Harter and Chris Bucknam have been vocal about not liking the final preliminary meets, but this year was especially chaotic due to the weather. That has passed and the men will be taking 20 athletes to Eugene and the women will bring 21. The men go into the meet ranked No. 5 in the nation and the women are No. 2, both are coming off conference championships in Tuscaloosa.
If you can’t get enough of post spring observations, then Saturday Down South has some more for you. Their list of strengths and weaknesses is pretty spot on, but I’d be weary of listing running back uncertainty as a weakness. Replacing Alex Collins will be difficult but there is plenty of talent at that position. You can always count on SDS for for overlooking details.
If that doesn’t excite you and you still want some Razorback baseball news, Dave Van Horn recently sounded optimistic that the MLB Draft will be kind to the Hogs this year. He expects outfielders Luke Bonfield and Carson Shaddy to return. The pitching staff might turnover some as well, but there are good odds on Dominic Taccolini coming back to school as well.
Arkansas isn’t in the NCAA Baseball Tournament this year but the bracket got released today which you can see here. You can still watch your SEC brethren for conference bragging rights, if you’re into that kind of thing. The SEC grabbed a record four national seeds this year.
