Alabama offensive lineman kicked off team | AL.com
Nick Saban announced the dismissal of the JUCO transfer in a one-sentence statement Thursday afternoon.
“Charles Baldwin has been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules,” the statement read.
Well, that was short lived. After being one of the most coveted Junior College recruits in the country, the 5-star offensive tackle has already been kicked out of Alabama. It’s a little odd, as nothing I have seen has ever mentioned any character or academic concerns associated with Baldwin. Rolltide.com has already removed his name from theĀ online roster.
As of now, Saban has not made it known to us what the JUCO lineman did to get himself kicked off the team, and it may be one of those cases where we never know… But I will update this article if any details come out.
While expected to come in and immediately compete for a starting spot in the mold of former Tide JUCO offensive tackles James Carpenter, Leon Brown, and Dominick Jackson, Baldwin had already been passed on the depth chart by true freshman early enrollee Jonah Williams during the spring practices and A-Day game.
Though losing a player at a critical position is never good for team depth (especially since at least two current tackles will leave the Tide after 2016), the emergence of Williams, plus other young talent such as Lester Cotton and Matt Womack, should allow Alabama to take the blow in stride.
