The Arizona Wildcats coaching staff has been recruiting the greater Los Angeles area, with a couple of big names here and there. But there’s been one linebacker who hasn’t been mentioned nearly enough, who seems to have a great relationship with the staff and has some pretty high interest in Arizona.
Joshua Brown is a 3-star linebacker out of Long Beach Poly, ranked 43rd at his position and just inside the top 1000 nationally. He checks in at 6-foot-2, 222 pounds, which gives him a pretty solid frame as a rising senior. I got a chance to talk to him about Arizona and his recruitment process.

“I was excited,” he said about his offer. “I just thanked God and called my family right away. The program is amazing.”
“Communication started when Coach [Marcel] Yates came to Poly to watch our practice. I talk to Coach Donte’ [Williams] every day,” he added.
Donte’ Williams has been the go-to guy for a lot of these recruits, who has a strong reputation amongst many California recruits.
“What I like about the coaches is that they keep it real,” Brown said when asked about what interests him in Arizona. “I feel like I can fit into their defense and make a true impact if I do decide to go there.”
When it comes to deciding on his future school, it will be all about where he “can come in as a true freshman and make a big impact.”
He’s been in talks with UNLV, Nevada, SJSU, UCF and has started communication with Oklahoma. Out of those schools he listed, Arizona and Nevada will be two visits that he definitely plans to take. However, he won’t be ending his recruitment anytime soon; he’ll be waiting for National Signing Day.
As for any leaders, well, he’s not ready to release that.
“I honestly haven’t given it any thought so if I gave you a ranking I’ll be lying and I’m not a liar.” Appreciate the honesty.
It’s unclear how many linebackers Arizona will be trying to add in this class, but Isaac Slade-Matautia and Richard Cage are two guys who could jump on board. An offer to Florida linebacker Nick Smith makes things interesting as well, but I could see Joshua Brown ending up with Arizona on signing day, adding some pretty nice attacking speed to the linebacker corps.
His junior year highlights are below.
