Pitt fans have been pretty excited about the roll out back to the script logo this offseason. While all sports are now adorning the script, it’s football that has drawn the most interest.
Results have been mostly positive – approximately 80% of readers that voted either liked or loved the new uniforms when they were revealed last month. ESPN’s panel that recently reviewed uniforms of every Power 5 team apparently likes them as well as the Panthers were voted as having the best outfits in the entire ACC:
We’re traditionalists here, and few uniform changes got us more excited recently than Pittsburgh’s decision to revert to its signature script logo. The look harkens to the good ol’ days of Panther greats like Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino, and it has been well-received in virtually every corner so far. The logo was used from 1973-96, and the alternate versions now even feature a matted navy helmet. (For the record, Florida State’s old uniforms would’ve been our pick here, but the Seminoles changed jerseys in 2014.)
One thing I noticed here is that the uniform discussion sort of revolved around the logo change for Pitt. Do they have the best-looking uniforms aside from that? Eh, who knows – all of this is opinion-based, anyway. But the nice thing is that this sort of stuff is great exposure for Pitt whether you’re into uniform discussion or not. It’s important to recruits and as much positive press as the athletics programs can get when it comes to the uniforms the better.
I know a lot of people want to see some tweaks made, etc., but as a whole, the opinions have been largely positive – and that’s a good thing.
This is a Pitt site, so running a similar poll here would be heavily skewed. But I’d be interested in hearing what fans think are the best uniforms aside from the Panthers’. Let us know by voting in the poll below.
