This is not Kyle Vasey. – Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

96 days until the Nittany Lions return.

You may have noticed that the photo for this countdown post contains neither Penn State long snapper Kyle Vasey nor any player wearing the number 96. You see, Kyle Vasey used to wear 43, the same number at the time as linebacker Mike Hull, who you see displayed in the picture above. And USA Today, whose photographer took the photo, mistakenly labeled this photo as containing Vasey, despite the fact that you can see Hull’s name in the photo. So Mike Hull is now Kyle Vasey and this photo is now relevant. Those are the rules.

Vasey is a redshirt sophomore who hails from Hawley, PA via Wallenpaupack High School, though he originally attended Delaware Valley High School in Frenchtown, NJ. Vasey contributed to defense and special teams as a high school player, and also played baseball as a pitcher and first baseman. Vasey has yet to see game action at Penn State, but provides depth at the long snapper position. As Penn State brings more competition in at kicker and punter, having some at long snapper is valuable as well.

Only 96 days until Penn State football.
