Sousa’s career contributions in Gainesville? An empty set.

Redshirt freshman wide receiver Ryan Sousa will not become redshirt sophomore wide receiver at Florida this fall, he announced via Twitter Monday evening.

Sousa got well wishes from several nowformer teammates, and his transfer isn’t a surprise or a major blow to the Gators.

Sousa was seen as a candidate to eventually be a slot receiver at Florida when he flipped to the Gators from Florida State in December 2013, but he got lost in the shuffle in 2014 as a freshman, taking a redshirt year, then failed to make an impact as a redshirt freshman in 2015. Not only did Sousa not record a catch in his Florida career, he appeared in just two games in 2015 — a year in which Florida had just three wide receivers make more than six catches, and in which playing time was theoretically available to any and all strivers.

Reasoned speculation suggests Sousa might seek to transfer to UCF, very near to his hometown Lake Nona.
