A strong performance in front of the Longhorns coaches earned a star prospect a rare 2018 offer.

Entering the weekend, the Texas Longhorns had only extended eight 2018 offers, but the Sunday mini-camp produced three more, with the Moore twins picking up two and Houston Lamar cornerback Anthony Cook also receiving his offer from the Longhorns:

The 6’0, 168-pounder is the first cornerback in the class to pick up an offer, so there’s no question that the put on an excellent performance for head coach Charlie Strong, defensive coordinator Vance Bedford, and defensive backs coach Clay Jennings.

A four-star prospect by 247Sports in the early rankings put out by that service, Cook is the No. 66 player nationally, the No. 6 cornerback, and the No. 6 player in Texas.

His early offer list reflects those rankings, as he’s been a hot commodity on the recruiting trail during the spring evaluation period. In addition to the offer from Texas on Sunday, Florida State also offered on the same day, and Florida, USC, Michigan State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State, Alabama, and Michigan all offered in the month prior. Overall, Cook now has 22 offers, including Arizona, Baylor, Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, and Texas A&M.

This was Cook’s second visit to Texas in less than two months, as he was also in attendance for the Orange and White game back in April.

As a sophomore, Cook had six interceptions and returned three of them for touchdowns.
